What are my delivery options?

If you live in Manhattan or Brooklyn, delivery week is the first full week of every month. We hand-deliver to homes and offices. Home deliveries are Monday through Thursday, from 7-9pm or 9-11pm. Office deliveries are made between 12 and 4pm on Wednesday or Thursday. If you live outside of NYC and are in our delivery zone, delivery week is the second full week of every month: Tuesday through Friday. When you enroll in the Membership, you will select your preferred regular monthly delivery day, but you are able to log into your Member account and change it each month.

Where is the ice cream made?

Every MilkMade pint is hand-crafted and hand-packed by the Milkmaids in our ice cream factory in Carroll Gardens. We are a New York State certified dairy plant, #361298.

How does the Membership work?

The MilkMade Membership is an ice cream of the month subscription. We make two unique flavors each month (we never repeat a flavor) and hand-deliver pints, quarts, or office packs to homes and offices in NYC, and ship pints via FedEx to residences throughout the Northeast. All local hand-deliveries are made during the first full week of each month. Shipped ice cream is delivered the second full week of each month. On the Monday before delivery week, we send an email to announce our Flavors of the Month and confirm your delivery day (you select this upon signup). If you need to change your delivery day or are out of town for the week, you may do so or defer the month by logging into your account and updating your details. Then, the Milkmaids head out to forage for local ingredients, handcrafted and hand-pack every pint, and deliver them right to your door. Memberships auto-renew each month until you opt out (not that you'd want to).

Can I purchase MilkMade Ice Cream anywhere other than through your Membership?

Yes! We have a Tasting Room in Carroll Gardens where you can drop in scoops. You can also order our Pint Packs online, we hand-deliver locally and ship nationwide!

Where is the ice cream made?

Every MilkMade pint is hand-crafted and hand-packed by the Milkmaids in our ice cream factory in Carroll Gardens. We are a New York State certified dairy plant, #361298.

How fresh is the ice cream?

We ship out the ice cream the day after we make it – just enough time for it to harden and set. You receive your pints within a few days of their preparation. They're the freshest pints you'll taste.

What's the deal with everything being local and sustainable?

We believe in sourcing ingredients from producers in our local foodshed who farm or craft their products in a sustainable manner - they’re healthy, they do not harm the environment or animals, they provide fair wages to their workers, and they support the local economy. Plus, local ingredients are fresher and just taste better! You can really taste the difference.

What kind of dairy do you use?

We use only grass-fed milk and cream from the happy cows at Battenkill Valley Creamery. They are a beyond-organic farm located in Salem, New York (about 4 hours upstate). They recently won the award for the highest quality milk in New York State.

Do you use eggs in your ice cream?

Most of our ice creams include eggs, but not all. We list the allergens on all of our menus.

Is your ice cream certified kosher?

No.

What kind of sweeteners do you use?

We use pure cane sugar in our ice cream. We occasionally use brown sugars, confectioner's sugar, local honey, or real maple syrup, as well.

Do you use gums in your ice cream?

No! We do not use any gums or stabilizers in the ice cream. We are au naturale.

What if I am allergic to nuts?

Our ice cream is produced in a facility where nuts are handled, so we always warn that the ice cream may contain traces of nuts. However, we implement safe allergen production practices in our factory and shop, and will go out of our way to serve you the purest scoop or pint. For our Membership, we may include nuts in certain flavors, but we never offer two nutty flavors in the one month. We do ask for your allergens when you enroll in the Membership and remember you can always skip a month's delivery if the flavors do not suit your diet or palate.

Do you offer any non-dairy flavors?

For the Membership, no. We live up to our name (milk made). At our Tasting Room and for our Pint Packs, we always have our Coconut Macaroon, a vegan Signature 'Scream. We also offer a new vegan 'scream or a sorbet flavor as part of our Seasonal 'Screams lineup each month.

Do you have any gluten-free flavors?

Yes, many of our ice creams and sorbets are gluten-free. You can find ingredient and allergen information under each flavor's description.

What's the shelf life of your ice cream?

We recommend enjoying your pint within two weeks of opening it. Unopened, the ice cream will retain its quality for up to 3 months.

What's the deal with the paper on top of my pint?

We provide a parchment liner in each pint to serve as a protective layer against ice crystals, which are more prone to forming in natural ice creams without gums or stabilizers. After each sitting, the parchment should be placed back in the pint so that it is touching the ice cream. This will mitigate freezer burn, or ice crystals from forming.

Can I purchase MilkMade Ice Cream anywhere other than through your Membership?

What is this: <00?

Why it's an ice cream cone emoticon, of course! You know, like a smiley face :), but two scoops on a cone <00. Its origin was a gchat session among Milkmaids as we were just launching. We always say that we'll know we've "made it" when Google turns it right side up. <00

What are my delivery options?

Where are your delivery zones for Membership subscriptions?

We offer local hand delivery for residences and offices in Manhattan and Brooklyn. We also offer shipping, for those who live within a one-day ground shipping zone - NY, NJ, CT, MD, MA, RI, DE, PA. Membership is not offered outside of these zones. However, you can order our larger Pint Packs which are shipped nationwide.

Do I have to be home to receive the delivery?

If you live in a doorman building, then no, you do not have to be home. We will just drop the package off with the front desk. If you live in a non-doorman building, we do our best to schedule the delivery for when you are home. If you are not home during your selected delivery time, we will attempt to gain entry to the building and leave the package as close as we can get to your door. If we're shipping your pints, FedEx will generally leave the package for you at your door. Since our pints are packaged with insulated liners and dry ice, it will remain cold until you get home later that evening. If you have any special delivery instructions, please provide them when setting up your account.

How do you keep the ice cream cold during delivery?

Dry ice is our best friend. A very dangerous friend. But our best. PLEASE USE CAUTION with the dry ice. Do not touch it! Always handle dry ice with care, and wear protective cloth (an oven mitt or kitchen towel) whenever handling it. Leave the dry ice at room temperature in a well ventilated area. It will eventually sublimate from solid to gas - like magic. Keep away from children and pets! And do not leave the dry ice on a tiled or solid surface countertop as the extreme cold may crack it.

Do I get to choose my flavors each month?

No. All members receive both of our two Flavors of the Month - one of each flavor. Flavors of the Month are announced on the Monday before each delivery week. If you're not a fan, you can always skip the month's delivery.

What if I don't like the flavors?

Well we really hope that you will like them! Or at least you'll be adventurous and give them a try! This is a membership for ice cream enthusiasts who appreciate the craft of ice cream, after all. But if you're really not digging the flavors in a given month, you can elect to skip the month by logging into your account and deferring delivery for the month.

Will you create a special flavor for me next month?

Sure! If you’d like the Milkmaids to cater your special event (a wedding, office party, dinner party, anything!), we can work with you to craft the perfect flavor.

Can I purchase the Monthly flavors à la carte?

If you are a Member, please contact us if you would like to purchase more pints of a particular flavor. If we can whip up an extra batch, we will do so! For non-Members, sorry we only offer our Membership flavors to Members.

How do I cancel my membership?

You can cancel your membership my logging into My Account and clicking "Cancel Membership" in the "My Plan" section. Be sure to do this by noon on the Friday before delivery week - otherwise we're already crafting your 'scream.

Can I gift a Membership to someone?

What a great idea! Yes, of course you can! We offer One-Month, One-Season (3-months), and Two-Season (6-months) gifts. Just click Gifts on on the top there. See that?

When will my recipient be notified of the gift?

That's up to you! When you place the order, you choose the date that the welcome email will be sent to your recipient. If you'd prefer to notify your recipient IRL, you may elect to receive a Gift Certificate via email, which you can then print and hand-deliver yourself.

Will I receive a notification that you are on the way to deliver?

Yes, we will always send a text when we are headed your way. For our Members outside of NYC, you'll receive an email with your FedEx tracking number.

What if I am out of town during delivery week?

If you are out of town and are unable to receive or enjoy your ice cream during our delivery week, you have the option to skip that month's delivery. You can do so by logging into your account and deferring the month's delivery. Right now, we do not deliver outside of our scheduled delivery week.

What if I need to change my delivery time?

When you enroll in the membership, you are prompted to select your preferred delivery day and time for each month. You can make changes to that at anytime by logging into your account. Be sure all changes are made before noon on the Friday before delivery week.

Is your packaging reusable or recyclable?

Yes! All our packaging is eco-friendly, reusable and recyclable. For our NYC Members, we ask that you return your insulated totes from previous deliveries. Your first tote is a gift from us (they make great lunch bags!), but please return any others after that so we can reuse them for future deliveries. For our Members outside of NYC, we use eco-friendly insulated liners to keep your 'scream cold. The insulated liners are made from recycled cotton fibers and sandwiched between two layers of poly film. We encourage you to recycle the components whenever possible. It's recommended to first separate the components by simply tearing, or slitting the outer poly film and removing the insulation pad. The cotton insulation material can be recycled at any recycling facility which accepts cotton fiber. If disposed of in a trash receptacle, the insulation is completely aerobically, and anaerobically biodegradable in less than one year. The outer film can be recycled as a #4 plastic. If disposed of in the trash receptacle, it does contain a patented additive that promotes and accelerates biodegradation.

What are the hours of the Tasting Room?

We are open every day except Monday. These hours will extend through Halloween 2018. Thereafter we MAY decide to only open on the weekends, but stay tuned. Monday: closed Tuesday: 1pm-10pm Wednesday: 1pm-10pm Thursday: 1pm-10pm Friday: 1pm-11pm Saturday: 1pm-11pm Sunday: 1pm-11pm

Is the Tasting Room only open seasonally?

The Tasting Room is open year round! Our summer hours for 2018 extend through Halloween. Thereafter, we MAY decide to only open on weekends for the winter as we have done in the past, but stay tuned.

What flavors are available at the Tasting Room?

Our ten Signature 'Screams are always available. We also offer six Seasonal 'Screams that change on a monthly basis. Check our Instagram for today's lineup.

When did you open the Tasting Room?

We opened the Tasting Room in the summer of 2015, six years after we launched MilkMade as a Membership Subscription service.

Do you sell Gift Cards for use at the Tasting Room?

You bet we do! Gift cards are available for purchase at the Tasting Room in any amount over $10. We also offer online gift cards for the Tasting Room. Email us at shop@milkmadeicecream.com for the link to purchase.

Can I purchase pints to go at the Tasting Room?

Yes! We offer pints of all of our Signature and Seasonal 'Screams. Just grab what you'd like from our pint freezer (we call her Debbie Harry).

Can I host a party at the Tasting Room?

Probs not because we have such a small 'lil space. Email us at shop@milkmadeicecream.com and we'll see what we can work out.
